|Ability||Choose a friendly minion. It can't be targeted by enemy spells. Draw a card.|
Description[edit | edit source]
Choose a friendly minion. It can't be targeted by enemy spells. Draw a card.
Notes[edit | edit source]
Does not protect the minion from tile-based effects or spells which effects all minions. Only protects minions from targeted spells. Chromatic Cold, Plasma Storm or Frostburn, for example, are effective against Aegis Barrier.
Strategies[edit | edit source]
On first glance, one would assume that Aegis Barrier would be played regularly: its effect is powerful and cheap, and the card cycles itself. The problem with Aegis Barrier is its permeability: many effects can get through its protective buff. Vanar's Chromatic Cold, Lyonar's Sun Bloom, Magmar's Plasma Storm, and Ephemeral Shroud penetrate Aegis Barrier's protection. Absent from this list is Songhai. For this reason, Aegis Barrier is used as a tech card against Songhai. Most Songhai removal is targeted: Juxtaposition, Onyx Bear Seal and Phoenix Fire are all targeted spells. Thus, an Ironcliffe Guardian buffed with Aegis Barrier can outright win the game against some Songhai decks.
Gauntlet Strategies[edit | edit source]
Gauntlet decks tend not to run very many spells, so Aegis Barrier is often "draw a card for 1 mana", making it a mediocre Gauntlet card.
